| Director Vinayan’s Raghuvinte Swantham Rasiya is one movie which could surprise you with its inanity. With a rather flimsy plot that lacks any imagination, the film is a text book on how not to make a film. A mentally challenged girl is found in the street and sometime later she is taken to the hospital by her father (played by Sphadikam George) where she is given the mandatory shock treatment. The dad confirms that it is indeed his daughter Rasiya (Meghna Raj), after several days of treatment and tests! Now the flashback begins. Rasiya belongs to a wealthy Muslim household and she is the granddaughter of a highly idealistic Bapu Musaliar (Chaaru Haasan). She falls in love with a poor neighbour Raghu (Murali Krishnan), who is the grandson of a freedom fighter, Kuttappan Bhagavathar (Thilakan). The love birds are separated by Rasiya’s dad, who wants him to find a job. And to cut this silly story short, he becomes a terrorist, in a matter of some months! Vinayan has tried to make this film as a hotchpotch of several clichd ingredients like romance, song 'n' dances, poverty, jingoism, melodrama, cheap action and so on. But in the end it turns out to be a pathetic misadventure that ridicules the viewer who cares to watch this one. The entire cast of the film disappoints and it is a pity watching legendary actors like Thilakan trying to add believability to his poorly written role. Muralikrishnan, who makes his debut as a hero, fails to impress. Meghna Raj, who was introduced by Vinayan in his earlier film Yakshiyum Njaanum, looks good and tries a bit too hard to look convincing. With tacky production values and a poor script, the film fails in every department and is an example of shoddy filmmaking. Well, what more can you say about a film which will leave you with a smile while watching stupid scenes being presented as if it is a classic in the making. This one is a painful watch, nothing less! Verdict: Avoidable (source: sify.com) |
