Re: [www.keralites.net] Beauty of Malayalam language...

I personally cannot agree with Joe Joseph.
The original article was only talking about the beauty of "Malayalam".  English language might be stronger in literary resources; because Great Briton once was 'the empire where Sun never sets'. Even French language has more beauty than English. Teaching English even for your lifetime does not make a linguist. I will just ask one question to show the shallowness of English.
How many words are in Malayalam for the most common English word "love", to express the different meanings according to the relationships?
Above all " Beauty is in the Eye of the beholder"!
Thanks.

This is called stress, giving stress is very much important in English too.Malayalam is our mother tongue we must love it.
But I would contradict your statement that Malayalam is more beautiful than English,It is ignorance, being a teacher of English for more than ten years.I say that Malayalam is nothing in front of English when considering, resources, vocabulary, versatility and synthesis of various cultures.

Malayalam is of course older than English, but its too feeble in literary resources and many aspects.
eg. This same stress can be given to English to.I will be using "!" mark to use stress in the following statement

"The !prime minister said that Indian will not attack Pakisthan" is the statement.Give stress to words each from the beginning you will see that the meaning too changes.

Besides, Malayalam lacks, the intonation, rhythm,to a great extend. In a way we can say that we cannot make a comparison of these two languages, since both of them belong to two different language Families,English an Indo European Language, whereas Malayalam belongs to Dravidian Language. Considering Dravidian languages Tamil is greater than Malayalam, then Telugu, then Kannada and Malayalam is not even a classical language.

But beyond all these points, for every individuals, their mother tongue is the most important and most comfortable language of all.
I have been teaching English for years, have completed my M.Phil too in teaching English, but from the depth of my heart I am proud to say that I love my Malayalam than any language.I love speaking it,reading in it and sharing in it.Happy that our governments are taking needed steps to preserve our mother tongue.

Joe
