The Prime Minister of Norway, Jens Stoltenberg, gives AUF (Workers Youth League) leader Eskil Pedersen a hug outside the Sundvollen hotel. The Workers Youth League (Arbeidaranes Ungdomsfylking, or AUF) is the youth organization affiliated with the Norwegian Labour Party. AUF was formed in April 1927, following the merger of Left Communist Youth League and Socialist Youth League of Norway. Its ideology is social democracy and democratic socialism. Many former leading figures in AUF have gone on to serve in significant positions in government, such as the incumbent Prime Minister of Norway, Jens Stoltenberg. On Friday, 22nd July an AUF conference at Utoya was the scene of shooting massacre, killing at least 86 people. The incident was carried out by ultra nationalist Anders Behring Breivik, a Norwegian national with political views and links to other various far right groups around Europe. There was also a bomb explosion in Regjeringskvartalet, the executive government quarter of Oslo, at 15:22 (CEST), outside the office of Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and other government buildings. The explosion killed seven people and injured many others. A NATION MOURNS
